Don't you KNOW that isn't SAFE??!! RUN!!!
LOL.
I posted that on another 'survival' site and man, oh man, you should have heard the screams. Never mind that people used it and survived quite well before they had refrigeration. I declare, people today are just afraid of their food.

I'm making this. I've already reduced the broth and poured it into a container. It's so thick and silky! Once it cools a bit, I'll put it in the fridge. I'll let y'all know how it turns out.

I cut the bouillon into squares this morning. It was so firm that I couldn't cut it with a butter knife, I had to use a paring knife. I have put it on a cloth on a plate in the fridge to let it dry even more. It should be ready to package tomorrow. I'm interested to see how well it stores on the shelf.

I let it come to room temperature before I packaged it so it wouldn't sweat, which might cause it to mold. I put it in a clear container where I could keep an eye on it.
Before I packaged it up, I tried reconstituting one in a cup of boiling water. It was good.
I sure hope it keeps well. The process is simple enough and y'all know how I love having foods that keep on the shelf.

Last week I noticed a few white spots on the bouillon cubes. I wasn't sure if they were salt deposits or mold so I have been keeping an eye on them. They're definitely moldy. The entire container is filled with it now. Even though I followed the directions to the letter, including doing all of the optional steps, the cubes did not keep even a month.
I'm not usually a naysayer, but this recipe is not safe.

It's better to find this out now, while we aren't depending on them to survive.

Bummer!! I'm supposed to take mine out for cutting today. Maybe giving them a dry in a dehydrator would help??

It would be worth a try. If you do it, let us know how it works. I really, really want this idea to work and be safe.

It didn't work. They melted all over the bottom of the oven.
