I'm experimenting with sugar-free jam today. I don't think my first attempt is going to work, but I'll know for sure in an hour or two, after it has a chance to cool thoroughly. If not, I'm just going to try recooking it. I might not have cooked it long enough (I'm trying to figure out if I can cook it for a specified length of time or if I need to go by testing or temperature) The first time I only cooked it 5 minutes, so I really don't expect it to set up. It tastes pretty good, though.
Other than that, I'm teaching school. It's a slow day here.

Dan had to work today. I was copying recipes and putting them in the cookbook, but my mouse seems to be in a coma, and won't copy anymore (the right button won't work), so I have had to quit until I get a new one. This one has lasted longer than any other mouse I've had, so I don't feel too bad about it. I got my money's worth.

I spent about 12 hours moving recipes. My mouse is still giving me fits - sometimes it works, sometimes not. It seems to get tired or something. I believe I need to get a new one.
Everyone wanted popcorn, so I made a ton of it and they ate it all. While I was making it, I took a notion to make popcorn balls, so I made a double batch - 2 dozen. I have about half of them left, so we will have some tomorrow.
I made doughnuts for breakfast. While I was measuring the flour and sugar, I thought it would be nice not to have to do that everytime I wanted doughnuts, so I measured out enough for 3 batches and put a batch in each of 2 big ziplocks and stashed them in the refrigerator. Now I only need to add milk and egg and we'll have doughnuts.

Gayle, did you try taking the ball out of the mouse and cleaning it? Sometimes stuff clings to the two metal rods inside the mouse and has to be defuzzed. It also helps to shake the mouse out after defuzzing. I've seen quite a bit of 'stuff' come out of a mouse when it's cleaned.
I spent the day doing my job. A chicken farm knows no Sundays or holidays. The job has to be done. I got one - two gallon food grade bucket cleaned out. Yellow eye beans will be going into it. Got the kitchen straightened up a bit and I'm thinking about making some Salmon Bisque. Had a big lunch so I'm not hungry enough yet to be motivated to cook.

Fla Gal, it's a lasar mouse, so no ball. It still might be dirty. I don't have a clue how to clean it, though. I think you'd have to take it apart, but I can't see how.

Do you use a thermometer to check the temp? Will you share the recipe?

Yes, I fry them and I DO save the oil. I have a professional fryer so I just leave the oil in it, as long as it looks and smells clean. If it gets bits of food in it, I can take out the liner, strain the oil through a sieve, wash the liner and elements, then put it back together, adding more oil, if necessary. Of course, you don't have to go out and buy a professional fryer. I just got mine for Christmas. Before I had it, I would fry in a dutch oven, then let the oil cool, strain it, and store it in a bottle (the one from the oil) until the next time. I never did fool with thermometers. Instead, I'd toss in a 1" piece of bread. When it cooked crisp in 10 seconds, the oil was hot enough. Oh, when the oil is starting to get 'iffy', that's when I cook fish or shrimp. Then I throw out the oil and start with fresh oil the next time. Two quarts of oil will usually fry about 12 meals or so. The recipe I used for the doughnuts is the Salvation Army Doughnut recipe. It's my favorite~ grandmaw.proboards40.com/v45index.cgi?board=breakfast&action=display&thread=891

I'm going to make more tomorrow. This time I think I'll put powdered sugar on them.
