I thought today was going to be a quiet day, then I remembered that I hadn't paid my satellite bill (which is due in 3 days) or my state taxes, so I went to town and paid them. I paid my electric bill, too, while I was there. Then I went to the feed store and stocked up on about a month's worth of feed. The church store was open today, and they had a 10 cent sale (everything in the store was 10 cents), so we stopped there, too. And, of course, I had to go to the grocery store for apples. I got a few other things, as long as I was there. They even had onions for $1 a 3-pound bag (on clearance) The only thing wrong with them is that a couple of them were growing, so I got 2 bags. I should have got more. I use a lot of onions.
When we got home, we did school and I did laundry. I got a bunch of wool scarves at the church store. None of us can wear wool, so I felted them. I'll use them for crafts. The whole lot of them cost less than a dollar. They're all red plaid, but different designs. I also got a red plaid wool shirt, which I also felted. Not sure what to make yet, but it won't be anything to wear. Too itchy.

Two of the kids are sick, so Tim and I have spent the day cleaning the house, making food, feeding the animals, cleaning the brooder, and mixing feed for the chickens - besides running from the sick rooms to the kitchen and back. (I made the sickies stay in bed all day)

Fat lot of good it did to make the sickies stay in bed. They gave it to me anyway. I don't feel so bad, just very dizzy. I'm ok as long as I'm sitting or lying down, it's just when I walk that I get dizzy. My guess is it's my inner ears. I'm taking a decongestant. It helps for a couple of hours, but I can only take it every 4 hours. I've spent most of the day watching tv or sleeping.

Well, bless your heart. I wish I was close enough to bring you some food. Hope you feel better tomorrow. I'm still pluggin away. My back wont let me do much for very long but I cant just sit down. I have this little armless rocking chair that was my mama's. For some reason it makes my back better. Its not cushioned either. Just wooden. I use it in front of the computer but I think I'm goin to move it away so I can do my hand work while I sit. My rocker/recliner chair is too comfortable. If I sit in it very long I fall asleep. I need to have a few days without the kids to get caught up on cleaning.

Peggy, I'm feeling much better today. I'm still taking the decongestant, but not getting dizzy anymore. The gorgeous weather helped, too.
Got a late start today because the kids had to go help the neighbor. It didn't help that I set the oven on fire. When the kids got back, we went to town, paid the bills, and did a little shopping. I got a ham and some bananas for Easter dinner. That was all I needed.
I went to the tobacco store and got some great deals on bread. A big box of white bread, 11 or 12 loaves, was just $2. I got a few other goodies, too, but that was the best deal.
Dan got Ben and Nick from Job Corp. They'll be here for Easter. So will Jennifer and Jake. I still need to get some candy - just a little, to make it seem like Easter.
Dan doesn't suspect that I made him 2 pies. He's too interested in the ribs in the oven. He'll be surprised when I take out those pies!
It's hot today - 90 degrees. That's quite a change from yesterday's heavy frost. The daffodils, forsythia, dandelions, Bradford pear, weeping cherry, and some kind of little purple weeds are blooming, but no redbuds or flowering quince yet. The pears and cherries were in town. I don't have a lot of purely decorative trees in the yard - just the quince, a couple of lilacs, and a corkscrew willow. Even those aren't purely decorative, since the quince makes fruit that I use in jelly and the willow is useful for aches and pains. I haven't found a use for lilacs yet, but they remind me of both my grandmothers and my mother - they all had lilacs.

I'm playing catch up on housework today. We had a cook out with the kids last evening so I cooked all day yesterday. Didnt know until 3:00 that I was probably goin to have to do the grillin. He got it in his head somehow that I was goin to start the meat in the oven and finish it offon the grill. So we didnt have the baked beans I was goin to fix. I put the 2 cobblers I was making in the oven when I went to get abbey. I was supposed to pick up Hailey but she never showed and by the time I waited an extra 15 min and drove home the cobblers were almost burned. Not quite but almost. The blackberry was kinda chewy around the edges. Paul hasnt grilled any meat in over 2 yrs so he burned the outside of most of it. It was still tender inside so we just pulled off the burned. I was so tired and my back hurt so bad I've just about decided to not do it again for quite a while. Well, as we were unwinding after everybody went home my dear, dear husband says "we dont need to invite company but we should grill meat at least 2 times a week" He's lucky I was in no shape to hurt him. Cause this morning he would be sportin bruises. I love that little emoticon thingy. This morning I'm rested and he's safe. Theres just a huge mess to clean up and I even splurged and bought paper plates and cups. Gotta get to work.

I was in a quandry today. I don't normally work or cook on the Sabbath, but Easter's tomorrow, and I'm having company, so I didn't have much choice. I tried to keep it simple, though, just potato salad, jello, and banana pudding. I'll fix the ham tomorrow, make a relish tray, warm up the bread, and that's all we're having.
You won't believe what I did! I got everything for the kids for Easter, except chocolate rabbits! Poor old Dan had to go to Walmart at 8:30 tonight to get some (a 2 hour round trip, not counting shopping time) He's a good hubby to do this for me! A lot of men would have told me to just forget it or do it myself (I can't see good enough to drive at night)
This is the second time he's gone to Mt. Sterling for me today. The first time he went to Lowe's to get me some new plastic for the greenhouse. I plan on starting my seeds this coming week and winter was not kind to the greenhouse roof, so I need to replace it. I guess I'll be doing that Monday while the kids work on their school.

What am I doing today? I'M FREEZING, thats what I'm doin. Paul and arent on the same temp anymore. He burns up and I freeze. He has the ac on at about 60 degrees. The vent is right over my head when I sit at the computer. I closed the other one in the living room and the one in the kitchen. he doesnt know they are closed or he'd be opening them. Its a sad day when I have to go outside towarm up. I'm sitting here in a pair of jeans and a long sleeved thick winter shirt, FREEZING. I'm so cold I cant get any work done. Maybe I'll go in the kitchen and fire up the oven and bake something. I'm half afraid he'll think he needs to adjust the temp cause its too warm. Sheesh.

Dan and I are just the opposite! He wants it 90 degrees in here and I'd like it a little cooler, like around 68. He usually gets his way (somewhat) I can't breathe good when it's too hot.
I've been running in circles today. I pulled the old plastic off the greenhouse, and was going to put up a new door, except the door was too tall, so I can't use it. Now the greenhouse is naked for no good reason.
I was setting up a pelvic bone, next to the clothesline pole (Buddy dragged it home from who-knows-where. I think it's from a cow), when I noticed that a branch of the forsythia had rooted at the tip, so I pulled it out, cut it off, and planted it on the other side of the creek.
Then I decided we needed to pick up some of the junk in the yard, so I went over by the wood furnace to look for some. I didn't find any, but I saw that 2 branches of the viburnum had rooted in an old stump, so I pulled them out, cut them off, and planted them next to my shed.
As I went to put the shovel away, I saw the rose bush I bought a couple of months ago (but hadn't yet planted), so I planted it next to the front porch steps. It should do good there because it gets the morning sun and part of the afternoon sun, but is shaded during the hottest part of the day. I hope it grows. It's a yellow rose and I don't have any yellow ones.
As long as I was planting roses, I figured I might as well plant the rugosa rose I managed to root last summer. It's the only cutting that leafed out this spring and I didn't want to leave it in the pot another year. I put it in the row where the raspberries are. There was a gap in the row, so that should fill it nicely.
While I was doing all that, Belinda was planting gladiolus bulbs by the shed and Tim, Doug, and Jake were cleaning up some mess from the wood, mostly pieces of bark.
I still need to clean out the herb beds, but not today.
We've also been doing school and washing clothes. I had 5 loads, which isn't much for this bunch. I have one left to wash. (I really should be folding right now, instead of playing on the computer)

Jake and I finally got to plant some seeds today. I promised him we'd do it as soon as the greenhouse was finished. We've been so busy, we haven't had time till now. He loved it! We planted luffas, several kinds of tomatoes, and several kinds of peppers. I don't think I'll try to save seeds this year because I want to put them all in the same garden, so they won't stay pure. It's ok, though, I have a lot more seeds leftover.
Jake was the most excited over the Campbell's tomato seeds and the Jalapenos. He liked that we're going to grow some Campbell's Tomato Soup and said the Jalapenos remind him of summer. I said, "Why, because you eat a lot of them in the summer?". He said, "No, Gramma, because they're both hot!" (I should have known!)
I liked working on the seeds with Jake. He's autistic and has trouble with a lot of the things we try to do together. He didn't have the least bit of trouble with this. I think I've found my garden buddy.

Jake sounds like a smart kid to me. I'm glad you've found somthing you can do together. That will mean a lot to him.The autistic teen that sits behind me in church likes to sing. A couple of yrs ago his dad let him stand with him while he led singing. Later his dad sat on the front bench while James led a song. Now he gets up, walks to the front, stands behind the pulpit and leads a song. They did waiting on the Lords table like that too so now he can do it with the other men without his dad. That is too cute that he's growin Campbells tomato soup. Today its back to routine. Such as it is. We had such a good visit with the two ladies that came from Tn. Angelas baby is 11 wks and such a good baby. Lots of smoochin. The lady that came with her is such a dear friend to me. We talked non-stop and I realized that is what I miss most. Having somebody to talk to. To bounce troubles off of and get a sensible response from. Hey, I got a Tracfone that takes pics. The amazing thing is that I may have to turn down the sound its so loud. For me thats amazing. I'll have to take a couple of days to figure out how to put them on the computer. I'm goin to get off here and get my kitchen cleaned up. Its not much of a mess but I have two bushel boxes of baby red potatoes to can. That fellow at the mkt is such a help. Even though they are 10$ a box more than last yr its still worth it to have them on the shelf. Potatoes are one thing that are definitely way better home canned than the store bought ones in a can. And, I've found these small ones taste better than buying bigger ones and cutting them up. I dont peel them just cut the eyes out. They are clean so I just give them a good wash. Dont have to scrub them individually. I'm goin to have to use regular salt because I dont want to take time to run to the store. Didnt realize I was out of canning salt. It doesnt hurt the taters just makes the water cloudy. I cant wait until peaches time. Angela brought me 5 lbs of Clear Gel to make pie filling. I was goin to have to order it online. There is no such thing as a mennonite community anywhere near here. OK, I'm goin to work. YOu have a real good day. The skies here are clear and its cool enough for a sweater. Perfect.

It was cool here earlier, but it's warming up now. The last time I was out, I ended up taking off my jacket. I was getting too hot. The sky is clear, but the chemtrail planes are trying to 'fix' that.
I don't feel good today. I nearly tipped over my computer chair yesterday, trying to scoot it in, and hurt my back. I don't know how people live with constant back pain. Mine doesn't even hurt all the time, but it's making me feel sick. I couldn't stand it all the time.
My chicks came this morning. We went to the post office and picked them up. One of them looks like it might have a broken neck or back. I thought about killing it, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. Maybe it will get better. At least I think we should give it the chance.
The rest of them are so cute! They're white pearl leghorns. The free one they sent is black with a little yellow on it. I don't know what kind it is. The rest are solid yellow. They almost look fake.
Last night I was reading my Square Foot Gardening book. I'm considering building some beds today, if I can work up the nerve to use the circular saw. I've never used one and I'm scared I'll cut off my leg with it. I could go tomorrow and get the stuff to make the soil if I get them built. I really need to get my asparagus roots planted and I don't want to lose this bunch to weeds, like I have all the rest.

This is a nice relaxing day for me, but not for Dan. He tore off the front porch this morning. It was falling away from the house, so he had to fix it. He's got the framing replaced and is putting new boards on the floor now. He managed to do it without taking down the railing. I'm glad of that because that's where my clematis are growing. It took me 5 years to get them to grow and I'd hate to lose them.
When he was using the tractor to push the porch back in place, he pulled out a rotten stump that was out front, too. I'm glad to have it gone. It was a nice place to put a bird feeder in the wintertime, but those wild, multiflora roses grew all around it and we couldn't cut them down. They got in the way of the air conditioner, rugosa rose and the raspberries, too. Now we won't have any trouble mowing them down.

You ladies are pretty busy, that's for sure. My youngest son and I headed for Brattleboro to pick up supplies today. Have you ever had a day that you kept finding one bargain after another? Today was that kind of day. Found a large leg of lamb for 2.99 a pound, never seen one for under 5.99 a pound before. Scarfed that up, then I found ground turkey for a great price and stocked up on that, too. Bought my son a meal at KFC as a treat for great improvement on his report card this quarter. Who says you can't bribe kids?! Got home and washed, prepared lettuce, veggies, etc for the week ahead. A whole lot easier after a long day at work to have everything washed, peeled and sliced, ready to go. Getting the apartment ready for Cade, he will be home from school this summer. Hope I survive it We miss him but I suppose we've fallen into our own routine since he has been gone.

It's hard when one comes home, even if it's just for a weekend. You get used to them being gone and not having to take their needs and wants into consideration. Plus, they change so much (hopefully for the better) I told both of mine to stay at Job Corp this weekend because I needed a break.
I just love those days when you find all the bargains! You got a wonderful deal on that lamb! I'm a little jealous! I love lamb, but can never find a price I'm willing to pay (I would pay $2.99 a lb. in a heartbeat!)
