Valerie, I'm going to show your post to Doug tomorrow! He left a prybar lying on the bench today and I could just imagine someone sitting on it! Yesterday, he left a mattock stuck in the ground! He got yelled at for that, then he did it again! Never, ever leave a mattock stuck in the ground! That's so dangerous!
I hope your co-worker heals fast! She must be in a lot of pain! (that story just caused my stomach to ache. Poor thing! Ow!)
We cleaned the house this morning and got the trash out before the garbageman ran. When we left to go shopping, I thought it was odd that he hadn't picked up the trash yet, since it was already 11. He usually picks it up between 8:30 and 9. After we got home, Dan told me that he fell off the truck and hit his head and was bleeding from his ears. They rushed him to the emergency room. I haven't heard anything else about how he's doing. (He's the son-in-law of a friend of ours) Somebody else picked up the trash - probably our neighbor, Larry. (We know all the county workers)
We did all our regular errands in town, then went out to lunch (Dan took today off and Doug stayed with him, so I only had Tim and Belinda) I was supposed to meet Jennifer and go to the greenhouse, then she was going to take Tim home with her to spend the weekend and Belinda and I were going on to Morehead to get Tim and Doug birthday presents (their birthday is Wednesday) Well, we did all that, except we got lost in Morehead and had to ask how to get to Walmart because they built a new one and I didn't know where it was. That place was a zoo! The whole town, not just Walmart. I think it was because we got such a late start and didn't get there till school and college was out for the weekend. We didn't get home till about 5, but we got everything done.
After we got home, we cleaned the windows (outside) because I finally found a squeegee! When I was lost I went to Big Lots and they had them. I've been looking for one for months!
While we were gone, Dan and Doug rebuilt the porch steps. I didn't like the ones he just built because they were too steep and the treads were too shallow. Dan nearly fell down them last night, so they got rebuilt today. They're good now.
They also went to Job Corp and picked up Nick, so he's here for the weekend.
I am so thankful it's the Sabbath! I really need the rest! What a week this has been!

We worked on our pots today. I have squash and a cucumber with a trellis to run on. I searched for lemon balm but nobody has it. I even went to a nice nursery thinking I surely could find it there but he said he just didnt plant any this week. I'm goin to Jonesboro the first of the week. If I cant find it there I'll order some seeds. It was weird anyway. The nursery was pitiful so I went next door to Lowes and got dill, mint, sage and aloe. I need basil but they didnt have the kind I wanted. I did find paul a double impatiens. I sure wish this weather would stop so I could go to bed. The tornado sirens went off an hr ago. We did find out paul can make it out there, down the ladder and back up again. Bless his heart he left the dog in the house. I was dreading having to force the silly thing down there. It wasnt close to us but we are ready if one does. Dont know why these dumb things cant come in the daytime when I can see whats goin on.

Starting back to school today! That was the longest week I've had in a long time. I'm used to them tearing by at breakneck speed with me feeling like I'm running behind the whole time. It sure was nice to just rest! Even though I still had to work, just doing one and not both was so restful!
The girl at work is doing better. She came in Friday night and cashiered for us, even though she wasn't fast enough to wait tables. I think mostly she just wanted to get back and see everybody. She had her foot wrapped up really good, extra good, because the dr told her that MRSA is making the rounds again. That is some super wicked stuff!
DJ came out for a visit yesterday. That was the first time I've got to sit down and talk with him in months. It was so good to see him!
Peggy, I have some basil seeds left if you'd like some. It's not the regular sweet basil, though. It's an heirloom called Fine Verde. It gets small leaves, but it tastes like the regular kind. You just don't have to chop it up as much to use it.

Valerie, did you know that bleach baths are supposed to be good to prevent (and cure) MRSA?
Here's How:
1.Mix one-half cup of regular Clorox bleach into your bath tub that is one-quarter filled with lukewarm water.
2.Bathe in this diluted bleach water for about five minutes.
3.Repeat the dilute bleach baths 2-3 times a week

That's good to know! Makes sense since the bacteria live on your skin. When I go back to work at the school, I'll probably do this routinely. Those little kids are so sweet and want to hug on you all the time, but sometimes you just feel like you want to bathe in Germ-X! This is the next best thing!

It's good to use if you are prone to boils, too. Personally, I've never had one, but I have recommended it to people who have and they say it really gets clears them up.
I got up early today and went outside. We had the prettiest sunrise I've ever seen here! Usually we only get a little pink near the hill across the road and that's it, but today the whole sky had fluffy clouds and they were all kind of a bright, deep salmon color. I tried to get a picture of it, but it didn't show what I was seeing. I suspect it was like that from the volcano in Iceland.
I'm doing laundry today. I forgot to do it yesterday, so it's piled up. Looks like I'll have about 5 or 6 loads. Thank God we're blessed with machinery that can do the work!
The kids are doing school. They're happy that I woke them up early to see the sunrise because they'll get done with school earlier.
We already cleaned the house and fed the animals.
Jennifer called last night and said that the water around her house had gone down, so she would bring Tim home today. I'll be glad to see him come home. Not only did I miss him (he's the quiet one), but he knows where all the food is. We haven't been able to find anything since he's been gone. He keeps a map of where the food is on his dresser, but it's in Chinese, so it was no help.

What an organized kid! That's really good! I did school this morning, then after lunch I went to pay the light bill in Hilliard, then I went to Callahan to the feed store and got shavings and chick starter. Then I went to the Ace hardware and got my mom one of those topsy turvy tomato thingies. She said that's what she wants for Mother's Day. The Ace in hilliard was out of them. Anyway, Ace in Callahan had no tomato plants, so I went back to the feed store because I saw they had some, and bought one there. Then I came home and unloaded the truck and it started raining. AND, while I was at Ace in Hilliard, I found one lonely little lemon balm so I had to buy him, and also got a catnip. Mostly because I want to see what the cats do with it. I heard that people drink catnip tea, but I'll have to read up on that.

I've had catnip tea. It's pretty good, but I can't remember what I drank if for. I could look it up if you want me to.
We did some school this morning, while we waited for the dew to dry off the grass. Then we started cutting grass. The backyard is done and we're taking a lunch break and cooling off. It's in the low 80s right now. They're calling for rain tomorrow, so we want to get the grass done before it starts. Last week we got all of it done, except part of the orchard, before the rains came. The grass on the lower part of that hill is knee-high. We held off on doing that because I figured it would take longer to dry. When we get it done, the place will look like a park. I'll try to remember to take a picture and post it.
I did a load of clothes this morning, too. I usually sort the clothes before I wash them, but I didn't have much, so I just threw everything in together. It turned out fine.
Doug cleaned out the henhouse today. Apparently it leaked because it was flooded again. Dang. It looks nice now, though. This afternoon, I want to make a new ramp for the chickens. The one we have is smooth and the ducks can't get up it. I have some wood slats to put on the new one, so they can get a toehold. I'm making it longer, too, so it isn't so steep. Hopefully, then, they'll go in the henhouse at night and the boys won't have to catch them and put them in. That's fun at first, but it gets old.

Ugh. My boys have decided that their primary form of entertainment is to bicker. So, after a morning of constant bickering anytime I gave even ONE 5 minutes free time, I announced there would be NO more free time. Since I had to do a bunch of phone calls & computer/paperwork for the BnB, after lunch we cleaned rooms (which is "fun") and then they sat and did copywork, colored historical pictures, and made posters of the digestive system while I called funeral homes, insurance brokers, etc. Well, BOY have I gotten promises of no fighting in spades. I let them play a bit, and they seem to be back on track. We'll see.
I have to do some VBS music practice with some kids at 4, pick up the CSA at 5, and somewhere I'd like to mix up a batch of snack cake mix, but that might not happen. I think the kids are going to eat tomorrow's breakfast for a snack. They seem legitimately hungry. <SIGH> Growing boys.
I love catnip tea. Grew a bunch at the old house, and have a bunch here in a window box. Looks pathetic in the summer, but is okay in winter (except the really cold hard times) and it just seems to love autumn and spring. That's not a bad about of time for growing.

Sandra, that's good to know. I'll not expect much out of that catnip until fall, then.
Got this from catniptea.org (who knew it had it's own website!):
Drinking catnip tea is known to have many benefits. Catnip tea is known to contain a chemical called nepetalctone which promotes relaxation and sleep. Catnip tea is also known to alleviate pain caused due to menstrual cramping. Also strong catnip tea can help in reducing pain caused due to migraine headaches. Catnip tea can also help in easing the symptoms of flu like fever and sore throat. You can also use strong catnip tea for nasal decongestion. Catnip tea can also help in reducing the symptoms of diarrhea.
However, if you are pregnant then it is best that you avoid taking catnip tea as it promotes urine contraction. Excessive drinking of catnip tea can cause fatigue, headaches, vomiting and nausea. Also it is best that you avoid drinking catnip tea if you intend to drive a vehicle as it can cause drowsiness.
Sounds like just the thing for me!
We were so busy last night at work. There was a school play, a band concert, and a viewing all in the small town of Folkston. That means lots of people eating out either before or after. We had about 1/2 dozen tables from 2 til 5, then about 1/2 dozen more from 5 to 6, which means not much money came in during those 4 hours. From 6 to 8 we had both dining rooms packed, then 1 room stayed busy from 8 to 9. We made $90 apiece (3 of us) and most of that money came in 3 hours! Even the little 18 year old was hurting all over by time we got off!
Tonight is seafood buffet and steaks. Oh joy! That means the owner is there, cooking steaks, and that man just makes everything more stressful by his presence. He freaks out under pressure, so what everybody else is handling just fine without him he turns into a crisis.
Y'all have a good day. I need to get crackin on school work.

Valerie, Gayle is goin to send me some basil but if I can be greedy I'd like some of your too. I still cant find lemon balm. Gayle you'll probably need to send me that too. This place is the pits for finding stuff like that. Yesterday kinda got away from me. I had to go to the dr. office to make pauls app and ask for a script for michael. One of his eyes is getting infected again. Found out that they both need their own email addy for me to make appts and request prescriptions thru the computer. I set that up when I got home. I didnt expect them to be able to see paul yesterday so we had to pick up abbey from school and take her and brody to tamie at work. Come back, yank the car seat out of the back and load michael and paul for the trip to the dr. I had 3 seats in the surburban but this jeep is way smaller. Paul has a hard time getting in but once he's in its ok. We wont be making any long trips though. Thats okay because we dont have anyplace to go. He's already said that when his dad passes if he does before us he will not go. The trip would put him in the bed for months and he has no desire to get involved in the family stupidity that would be goin on. We'll just let them have it. Today I'm trying to catch up from being sick for 3 days. The housework and laundry is so behind. I'm taking sister D to sign up for home health care for her invalid husband. After that its laundry and mopping. What fun:) Oh yeah, one good thing from yesterday. Paul has lost 31 lbs. I knew he'd been cuttingback. I sure wish he could drop about 60 more. I dread him getting really sick because I couldnt take care of him as big as he is. Ya'll have a good day. It sure is beautiful here.

Peggy, so glad you're feeling better! If you'll pm me your address I'll put those seeds in the mail for you on Monday. That's good that Paul's losing weight. If he keeps doing what he's doing, he'll probably lose more without even realizing it. Back to work again this afternoon! Eeew! But tomorrow! My parents, and my brothers, and at least one of my kids are all coming out and letting me cook for them. That will be great! Y'all have a wonderful Mother's Day if I don't get back on her before tomorrow night!

Peggy, no problem sending you the lemon balm, too. It's growing like crazy!
Valerie, I think the sleep thing was why I used to drink it. I have stretches where I have a lot of nightmares, and need something to help me sleep soundly, so that was probably it. I've been having them again, so I ought to drink some now. Friday night I dreamt that Dan ran over the dog and he called me from work to tell me. I had to bury him (the dog, not Dan) That's when I woke up and had to check on the dog. He was fine.
No idea what I'll be doing today. I'll probably need a nap since I fell asleep at 7:30 last night (I laid down because I was cold) and woke up at 2 am. It's 5:30 now and I'm still wide awake. There's a whip-poor-will outside that sounds like it's lost its mind. I don't understand why some people like those birds so much - they're loud and annoying.

Both of my kids came out yesterday! That was Becky's big surprise for me. I saw DJ's car pull up, then I heard two doors close. I said, Hey, I heard two doors! and Dave started laughing at me. He kept the secret so good! My folks and my brothers came a few minutes later. My mom got an attitude because I insisted that she wash her hands or at least use GermX before putting the ice in the glasses. Gee whiz! Then she pouted because dinner table conversation was not centered around her or her interests. Geez! Then she had to make sarcastic comments about my chicks being in the spare bedroom (although they are in a big box, contained and clean). Then they left. Then my kids got in somewhat of an argument about DJ not doing his duty as owner of their place and making the other tenant obey the rules (or even saying anything to her). So we mediated that and helped them work out solutions to their problems. DJ promised he is going to man up and give both Becky and Caron one week to get rid of all their animals and inform their boyfriends that they can be over at the house 2 hours max each day. We'll see. Then they left. Then I loaded the dishwasher, (Dave had already cleared the table and put away the food), and was about to do the handwash dishes, when Dave decided that we needed to go to his mom's and drop off her card, since it appeared she still wasn't home because she wasn't answering the phone. So, I changed clothes, brushed my hair, and we headed over there. Turns out she was home. She and one of his brothers had just finished assembling her new table-top grill and were about to try it out. So they invited us to stay for a burger, which we did, and it was 10:00 when we got home. Then I took a shower and Dave went to bed, and I stayed up and wrote a paper for school and went to bed at 11:15. Next year, we are not observing Mother's Day, other than dropping two greeting cards in the mail!

Doncha think these forced holidays cause a lot of undue stress in families? If I had my druthers, I'd totally ignore Mother's Day, Father's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Valentine's Day. I'd keep Groundhog Day, just because it's fun and there is no pressure - no gifts, no special meals, no cards and no tv specials.
I didn't have any plans for today. I'm mostly just breaking up fights between the kids. They're supposed to be doing school. Sheesh!
