I was supposed to get company today, another homeschooling mom and her kids, but they never showed up. She runs 2 stores, so she probably got busy. We ended up working a lot today. The boys cut the grass. They did it really fast. They were trying to beat the rain (they did). I love it when the grass is freshly cut. The place looks like a park. I trimmed my boxwood out front. I have it shaped into a peacock and it was starting to look a little shaggy. It looks nice now. One of the neighbors stopped just as I was finishing up and told me how cute it was. I have 2 more that I want to shape into chickens, but I need to move them first. I planted them next to the flowering quince and the quince got so big it has completely covered up the boxwoods. I just need to figure out where to put them, then I can get to chopping on them. I might put them by the benches. That would be cute. We also did school, cleaned the house, cleaned the brooder, trimmed some wayward sprouts out of an apple tree, weeded a few of the raised beds, and moved the bigger chicks and ducks into the henhouse. One of the chicks got out somehow and the new dog killed it. I think we fixed the place where it got out, but I'm not positive because we didn't see it get out. We only saw Pal eating something and that's how we figured it out. Pal got his first spanking. I hope he learned from it. He seems like a smart dog. I really like him, but I can't have him killing my chickens. Belinda took a practice ACT test online today and did very well, so I scheduled her to take the real thing in June. She's so excited! She already has a college picked out and is checking into applying for scholarships and a grant. This evening, her friend called her and said that some boy wanted to take her out to the movies. (She knows the boy - I don't) He was on the line, too. She accepted and they're planning on going on a double date this Sunday evening. This will be her first date. We're going to have to have a talk before Sunday. She doesn't realize how sneaky boys can be. ;D

Here's a picture of the peacock bush. I would have posted it sooner, but I had to wait for the light to get right so it didn't just look like a green blob.

Love that peacock! As I was reading through your previous post, I was thinking 'pictures, pictures!' Scrolled down and bingo..pictures Yes, boys can be downright devious and sneaky sometimes...I know, I have two. Not much done today. After coming home from work, I took a nap. But daylight is burning, so I can tackle the bookshelves. Books are shoved every which a way and some didn't make it to the shelf. I've already hauled tons to the thrift store and plan another trip. Clean my worm bin and store my snow tires in the closet.... I put ribs in the slow cooker this morning. I really wish they were not so good I'm getting the hang of cooking grass-fed beef. I went in halfsies with the farmer up the road. Two hundred and fifty pounds of beef for 1.75 a pound. I've never spent such a big hunk of money at once on food, but it was well worth it. Enjoy your evening!

I didn't do a thing today, either. I took a nice nap before noon. Then grandson and I walked around the yard between rainshowers, watching the ducks and chickens, smelling the flowers, looking for tiny apples. I showed him how to throw a football and baseball, the way my dad showed me. During rainshowers, I watched him building with Legos, while I was online or reading. This is a lovely, warm(ish), gentle, soaking rain. Just what we needed! Everything looks so green and lush! All-in-all it's been a pleasant day.

As hard as you work debi you deserve a lazy day. I take one every now and then. Hope it was a good one. I've been sorting sewing stuff. Its poked everywhere and I'm trying really hard to find a creative way to keep it together. I planned to clean out the store room and make it into a sewing room but paul got kinda crazy that I was goin to stop prepping and told me to quit the sewing room notion and go back to listening to gayle. That and trying to catch up with all the behind housework is all I've dont today.

I'm sorry, Peggy! I know how much you were looking forward to that sewing room. Maybe you could use half of it for preps and half for sewing.
My sewing notions are all over the place, too. I don't have enough room in my sewing boxes (yes, plural), so things are stuffed everywhere. I've been considering getting one of those Army foot lockers to keep it all in. Some of them have divided trays in them. I think they would work. Then I could use the sewing boxes to organize other things, like my jewelry making stuff or small tools.

Seems like I worked myself half to death today, but I can't think of much I actually did. I dropped the kids off at church this morning, then went into town to pick up some snacks for Nick to take back to Job Corp (they eat dinner at 4, so he gets hungry before bedtime), then I talked to my sister for a couple of hours (till the phone died), then built a couple of raised beds and cooked supper. Easy day. I don't know why I'm so tired. (maybe the rainy weather)

Hope it's fine to jump in to this thread.
I'm at work right now - listening to them jack hammer outside of my office, thankfully it's 4 floors down.
Tonight I have to take care of some laundry and work on packing up some HBA stuff for our short vacation this weekend.

Of course it's ok to post on this thread. We like to hear what your doing!
Where are you going on vacation?
I'm going to do some laundry today, too. We've already cleaned the house and fed the animals. Now the kids are doing school.
I made 2 quiches and some bacon this morning. I also made a gallon of ice cream. It's an experiment. If it turns out good, I'll post the recipe either later today or tomorrow - depending on how long it takes to freeze.

We're heading over to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania for a long weekend.
I'm excited, we're going to lunch with a Mennonite couple.

I am just exhausted and so are the kids. We did a lot today.
Cut the grass Filled another raised bed Planted 2 beds Weeded two established beds Washed 2 loads of clothes Fixed the hinges on the chicken run gate Replaced the latch on the henhouse door Cleaned the henhouse Cleaned the nesting boxes Cleaned the brooder Fed and watered the animals (twice) Built a doghouse Mulched around the blueberries with peat moss
My back hurts so bad I can hardly walk, but not from all the work. It hurt when I got up this morning. I was using a shovel for a cane and the kids called me "Granny".
We did NOT clean the house today, except for dishwashing. We rarely skip a day, but we had too much to do and it wasn't really messy. We'll do it in the morning.
We were so tired, we just opened some canned tamales for supper. Dan is gone to the city for the stuff to finish fixing the porch steps. I hope he grabs a burger so I don't have to cook when he gets home.
I still need to have a bath. I'm grubby from working in that peat. The kids already showered.
We ought to sleep good tonight!

Gayle, reading your list made me tired. I've been busy all day but for the life of me I cant see what I've done. Except maybe make a mess in the bathroom sorting laundry. Its kinda gotten away from me again. It does that if I dont do some every day. Oh well, in the immortal words of Scarlett......"Afta all. tomorrow is anotha day". I think she must have said a few fiddle dee dee's in there.

Fiddle dee dee is such a good expression. I need to start saying that. At work, we have a cart outside the kitchen door, with three shelves. It starts out with three empty bus pans on the top. When we bus tables, we put the dishes in the top pan. When it is full enough (not supposed to be more than about 2/3 full) we lift it straight up out of the pan underneath and move it to the next shelf. When all 3 are full we wheel it in to the dishwasher and grab another empty one. We use ceramic dinner plates, salad plates, soup bowls, and little bowls they call monkey dishes. With it being all you can eat buffet, people go through a LOT of dishes, so those pans are pretty heavy. Last night, I believe that every time I bussed a table I had to move the dishpan. I must have done it 50 times! By the time I got home, my shoulders and upper back were so stiff and sore, even a hot shower didn't help. Anyway, I barely slept last night because I was too sore to get comfortable. I was able to go back to sleep for a little while after Dave left this morning. So, today, all I am doing is burning a couple of CDs for a boy at work, watering my buckets (because I don't trust it to rain enough), setting the hose on the peach trees, and reading a library book until it's time for work. Oh y'all, this lady I work with was painting her bathroom Sunday night, and she and her husband used a prybar to pull some nails out of the wall. It was laying on the floor with the claw end up, and she was standing on the toilet painting. She lost her balance and came down right on that prybar, and it went all the way through her foot! Owwwww! Needless to say, she is not working for a few more days.
